Rogerian Style Approach (GoogleDrive) (Due 11/13)
Read Jeffery Spicer's chapter, "On Rogerian Argument" and take notes. Pay special attention to the student example before and after the revision. This chapter should reiterate the concepts talked about in class.
After you finish reading, open a Googledrive document entitled, [Rogerian Style - Your Name] and list out the four parts of the for the following argument.
The argued topic is as follows: The University is reconsidering the attendance policy for all classes. As it stands, if your class meets 2 times a week, you may only miss 4 classes over the course of the semester. Any further absence from class would result in an automatic failure. The only exception from this rule would be bereavement, or a documented extended illness . The new policy would get rid of the attendance restriction all together, meaning if a student is present for every class or misses every session, as long as all work is submitted and exams are taken, both situations give the students eligibility for the same grade.
If your last name ends in A-H, you will be arguing for the policy change.
If you last name ends in I-Z, you will be arguing against the policy change.
The assignment must be about 2 pages for full credit. Remember, you must follow the four guidelines of the Rogerian argument: Problem, Exploration, Reconcile, and Thesis

Back, Back, Back it up... (GoogleDrive) (Due 11/18)
Choose a topic from the five we voted on in class (listed on the main Unit 3 page). Figure out the two sides you want to represent in the argument. Remember, depending on what topic you choose, there may be more than two sides, but only choose two to represent You are then to choose two articles for each represented side to summarize .
Article One (for each side): A peer-reviewed article found through either EMU's Library Database (http://www.emich.edu/library/) or GoogleScholar (http://scholar.google.com/?hl=en). These articles should be professional and well cited.
Article Two (for each side): An "article" that is well documented on the subject. This article could be a magazine, newspaper, blog, Ted Talk, or Youtube video. The videos must be at least 15 minutes long and well documented. Any blog used must also have references. Any article from this section must be longer than 5 pages. Do not use wikipedia, though you can use it as a start for your research.
Once you have your four articles, make sure you summarize them. The longer and more detailed the summary, the easier your paper and classwork on Tuesday will be. Upload the information onto GoogleDrive with a file name of [Article Summaries - Your Name].
