You will be graded on the criteria listed for each assignment. If you have any questions, please let me know!
These assignments take skills and concepts we learned in class and turn them into real world applications. I want you to take situations you see on a regular basis and think of them in a more analytical perspective. Have fun with these assignments and go above and beyond the minimal requirements.

Rhetorical Movie Review
Do you love movies? Of course you do because everyone loves movies. When was the last time you really sat down and did an analysis of a movie with rhetoric? You may be asking yourself, "What the hell does that even mean?" For this extra credit assignment, you will review a movie or a character using at least five (5) different rhetorical terms that are listed below as a guide. Read over all the terms, look them up, then think about a movie you have seen recently; how do all these work together? Do you want to analyze a specific character? Company/Organization? If you want to focus on a specific moment in the movie, that is fine as well. You are analyzing speech used as well as presentation. You have free reign of how you approach this assignment, but make sure you follow the following criteria for full credit:
Your heading should include: Your Name, Instructor Name, Date Completed, "Rhetorical Movie Review," and Word Count
Create an interesting title and make sure the formatting is in MLA.
Create a Google Doc file named [Last Name - Rhetorical Movie Review] and put it in the right class folder.
You must also print out a copy and turn it in for full credit.
(The rhetorical terms can be found in your textbook Understanding Rhetoric. If you need further help, please ask.)

Play Matters
When was the last time you watched someone play a video game? Your answer may be never. Many video games are not entertaining for the spectator, but it depends on the genre of game. For this assignment, you have the opportunity to sit down and actually observe someone (or a group of people) play a video game. You must do this at the Student Center E-Zone for full credit. You are going to be using the same primary research techniques we went over in class for your ethnography (observation, interview, survey, and photography) to capture a small slice of why video games matter. You are not required to play a video game, but you absolutely can.
Video games matter, but they matter differently to different people. Try to focus on a single player or a group that is playing the same game together in order to find out why the game matters to them. How you approach this assignment is up to you, but you must follow the following criteria for full credit:

Literacy Sponsor
When was the last time you thought about learning to read and write? Not just reading and writing English, but other world languages or computer based languages too. What about the people that helped or hindered your learning? These people are called "literacy sponsors." These people are typically parents, siblings, or relatives but certainly don't have to be. These people are often the largest influences on our education, and we don't always think of them in that way. This assignment will push you to think about a literacy sponsor and reflect on how they changed the way you thought of your own literacy. Who you choose to write on and how personal you want to get is up to you, but you must follow the following criteria for full credit:
