Read in Understanding Rhetoric:
Introduction, Issue 1, Issue 3
These readings are important for all composition classes, but you may find the information useful for all matter of situations. Pay heavy focus to Issue 3. Please take notes on both Issue 1 and 3. We will be using these notes in class.

January 13th
- First: Read Chapter 3, Section 9: Reading Critically in Writing in Action. (Pages 100-109)
- Read "Arts of the Contact Zone" by Mary Pratt (under documents). Make sure to take notes in your Reading Logs.
- Type up your "Community Background" interview and write at least a 300 word reflection on your conversation. Did you learn something new? Were you not completely truthful because you were embarrassed? How did you feel about your interaction? Put this into the GoogleDrive folder "Community Background." Assign the document the following title: [Last Name - Community Background]. Your heading should follow MLA format (found on page 403 of Writing in Action under "First Page and Title." Always include Word Count as the last line of the heading.
January 15th
- Read "Finding Your Way In" by Lessner and Craig (under documents). Make sure to take notes in your Reading Logs (Make sure you follow the annotated style mentioned under January 13th).
January 20th
- Have a near finished draft of your Discourse Proposal uploaded into the GoogleDrive folder. You must also be ready for presenting the community to the class. Your presentation should only be about two (2) minutes. After you present your community, you will receive feedback from your peers.
- Read "Body Ritual Among the Nacierema" by Horace Miner (under documents). Make sure to record notes in your Reading Logs.
January 22nd
- Your final draft of your Proposal should be uploaded into the GoogleDrive folder. Also, make sure your Portfolio is completed and printed for collection.
- Read "Ethnographic Writing" by Khan (under documents). Make sure to record notes in your Reading Logs.
- Edit "Instructor's Bio" in GoogleDrive. Only make one (1) change to the document. This change can be a name, detail, location, etc. Try not to change something that has already been modified. Compare the document to the original to verify a detail. You may also add a detail that isn't reflected in the biography.
If it is offending me, that is fine. I will be reading this out loud in class, so make sure the class will laugh at your comment. You are allowed to offend me, but please be respectful of your peers. If you think someone in the class will be offended, rethink your comment before posting.
